We, the petitioners, firmly call for the complete ban on the commercialization of electronic cigarettes (vapes) in Morocco and appeal for global concerted effort to address the growing global threat of vaping.
Despite being promoted as a less dangerous alternative to traditional cigarettes, vapes are increasingly accessible to minors and young adults. Across Morocco and much of the globe, they are being sold with little to no regulation, sidestepping age restrictions. Colorful packaging, cartoon-like flavor descriptions, and trendy designs directly target the young, establishing a dangerous tug-of-war between corporate interests and public health.
The global health implication is alarming. Vaping has been linked to nicotine addiction, impaired brain development in youth, respiratory and cardiovascular problems, and a higher likelihood of transitioning to traditional tobacco products. This is not just a local phenomenon—it is a global pandemic that requires immediate attention.
We urge national governments and global health authorities to take immediate action to:
1.Ban the sale, distribution, and promotion of vapes and e-cigarette products.
2.Enforce rigorous controls to prevent underage access, including digital age verification and retail monitoring.
3.Launch national and international awareness campaigns regarding the risks of vaping.
4.Foster international cooperation and frameworks through health organizations like the WHO to combat the spread and extent of vape marketing worldwide.
The health of the public—particularly the health of our youth—must come before the interests of the vaping industry. The time for strong, united action has arrived. Let us stand together to eliminate the widespread harm of these products and bring about a healthier future to the world.
