We bought our home (in the Gers, FRANCE) in Dec 2011 and have completely renovated it, including a swimming pool, with our own money and using local craftsmen. We now run a successful business offering all inclusive activity holidays and chambre d'hote.
In December 2014 we learned that the neighbouring farmer wants to change the use of his farm from 50 cows to 12,000 ducks. He owns 115ha of land in the village so he really does have the choice to build somewhere else, somewhere it will not ruin our business and our lives. Despite our objections, planning permission was granted and we have now lodged an appeal which is currently pending tribunal.
Instead of waiting for the outcome of the tribunal they started construction earlier this year, the buildings are now finished and we are expecting arrival of the ducks imminently.
This is not agriculture, it is industrial farming at it's worst! If they win we will be forced to close our business - how can we invite people to stay here, relaxing in the gardens and around the pool when there are 12,000 smelly ducks just meters away. We will also lose our home as the value will halve and no-one will want to buy it. It really will be the end of our world - and all because of one greedy farmer who has a choice!
Our business attracts people from all over the world including USA, South Africa, China and of course France and the UK. Everybody who comes comments on how tranquil and peaceful it is and we are now enjoying returning guests.
Our solicitor believes that a petition will help our case during the tribunal if we can demonstrate how many people are opposed to the situation in general and our personal circumstances. This sad situation could happen to anyone and this is why it is so important we win the tribunal as it will represent a precedent and help other people in the future.
Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to read about our plight. We really do appreciate every single person who signs this petition. We genuinely believe it will help us to save our business and our home that we have worked so hard for.
