The petition
After numerous sites in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere, it is now the turn of Palmyra, an admirable and breathtakingly beautiful archaeological site, in the heart of Syria, to be under threat from ISIS.
I ask the members of the Security Council to declare that the site is under its protection and take all the necessary and urgent measures to prevent an irreparable loss for world heritage.
Terrorist groups cannot continue with impunity to massacre memorial sites of humanity.
I would like to thank the Security Council members in advance and hope that they give their utmost attention to this serious cause.
