Every year, thousands of wild animals across the UK die in the most painful and lonely way imaginable, caught in snares. Hidden in the grass or along woodland paths, these cruel wire traps don’t discriminate. They don’t just catch so-called “target” animals they also trap foxes, badgers, rabbits, deer, hedgehogs, even beloved pets.
Most die slowly, terrified and in agony. Others are left alive for days, with deep wounds, waiting for a death that comes far too late. No living being deserves that.
Snares have no place in a compassionate country. We now know too much about animal pain, fear and emotion to keep pretending this is acceptable. Scotland has already moved to ban snares, and it’s time for the rest of the UK to follow.
We call on the UK Government and all devolved administrations to ban the use, sale and possession of all animal snares, to support farmers and landowners with humane alternatives, and to recognise that every animal deserves protection from unnecessary suffering.
It’s simple: if an animal can feel pain, it deserves mercy.
Let’s make the UK a country that chooses kindness over cruelty.
Let’s stop the silent suffering in our fields and forests once and for all.
