The footage is enough to make you sick. A shocking new investigation into a Scottish salmon farm that supplies Tesco has revealed scenes straight out of a horror movie. The video shows fish swimming in filthy, lice-infested waters, with chunks of their flesh eaten away. Some fish are missing eyes. Others are described as "zombies," barely alive, suffering from severe deformities and disease before they end up on supermarket shelves.
Is this the "quality" Tesco promises its customers? While the supermarket giant has announced a "suspension" of this supplier following the public outcry, a temporary pause is not enough. History shows that once the media storm dies down, business often returns to normal. We cannot allow these fish to be tortured in squalid cages, eaten alive by parasites, only to be packaged as "responsibly sourced" food.
The suffering is systemic. This is not an isolated incident; it is a recurring nightmare in the intensive salmon farming industry. By continuing to support open-net salmon farms, major retailers are complicit in this cruelty. If Tesco truly cares about animal welfare, they must do more than issue a PR statement.
We demand immediate action. We call on Tesco to permanently severance ties with this abusive supplier, rather than just suspending them. Furthermore, we urge the Scottish Government to revoke the operating license of this farm immediately. No animal should rot alive in a cage for profit. We, the consumers, refuse to buy products born from such misery.
