The down in your winter jacket or your luxury comforter has a dark, agonising origin. While brands claim to be "ethical," millions of geese are still subjected to the torture of live-plucking. This is not a haircut; it is a violent assault on a living being.
the stages of the torture :
The Restraint : Workers grab the geese by their necks or wings. They pin the birds down, often stepping on their heads or necks to keep them from struggling. The birds are terrified, their hearts beating at lethal speeds.
The Ripping : Without any anaesthesia, workers rip the feathers out of the bird’s skin by the handful. This process is so violent that it often tears the goose's skin wide open, leaving deep, bloody gashes across their bodies.
The "Repair" : When the skin is ripped, workers don’t call a vet. They take a needle and thread and sew the wounds shut on the spot, without any numbing agent. The birds are then thrown back into the dirt, trembling and in shock.
The Cycle of Pain : This is not a one-time event. Once the feathers grow back (after about 6 to 7 weeks), the birds are captured and tortured all over again. This happens up to five times before they are finally slaughtered.
This is the hidden cost of "high-quality" down. We demand a total global ban on live-plucking and a mandatory certification for all synthetic alternatives.
