Stop Turkey's Massacre Law

Since 2021, a coordinated campaign of fear, disinformation, and manufactured outrage has been fueling public hostility against stray animals in Turkey. Fake news stories, sponsored social media trends, and staged media coverage have shaped a dangerous narrative—one that portrays innocent animals as threats.
This narrative has paved the way for an aggressive and deeply flawed law that enables the mass seizure and removal of stray animals from the streets. While official discourse claims it is for "public safety," the reality tells a much darker story.
Only around 100 public shelters exist nationwide, with space for approximately 100,000 animals—far below the estimated millions of strays. Instead of building the necessary infrastructure, animals are being forcibly taken from the streets, crammed into overpopulated holding facilities, or dumped in remote wilderness behind barbed wire fences, left to starve and die in agony.
Meanwhile, those that remain on the streets—especially smaller animals like cats—are increasingly subjected to violence, torture, even sexual abuse. The situation has spiraled beyond control. What’s happening cannot be described as animal protection. It is a silent, systematic extermination.
