Every year, tens of thousands of primates our closest evolutionary relatives are treated as disposable biological tools in a global trade of misery. Whether they are violently torn from their natural homes in the wild, shattering their social bonds forever, or bred in squalid, concrete industrial facilities, their fate is a living nightmare. Macaques and other primates are highly social, emotional, and self-aware beings; in laboratories, they are imprisoned in sterile metal crates, deprived of sunlight, fresh air, and the social companionship that is vital to their sanity.
The reality of primate testing is a scandal of unimaginable physical and mental agony. These animals are subjected to invasive brain surgeries, forced to ingest toxic chemicals, and purposefully infected with deadly diseases, all while suffering in a state of constant terror and isolation.
Furthermore, the scientific justification for this cruelty is fundamentally flawed. Data from the pharmaceutical industry itself confirms that over 90% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human trials, often because they are either toxic or ineffective in humans. By continuing these practices, we are clinging to an outdated and unethical scientific model that yields misleading results and stalls medical progress.
We demand an immediate global shift in science and ethics:
An immediate global moratorium on the trade and transport of primates for research purposes.
A mandatory shift of all public and private funding toward modern, human-relevant alternatives such as organ-on-a-chip technology, sophisticated 3D human tissue cultures.
The legal recognition of the fundamental right of primates to live free from human-inflicted harm.
We must stop seeing these sentient beings as mere commodities. Scientific progress that relies on the torture of our cousins is not true progress it is a moral failure.
