Bees and other pollinators are essential to our food systems and ecosystems, yet they are under siege. Each year, we lose millions of bees due to highly toxic pesticides, threatening biodiversity, crop production, and the health of the planet.
Recent research shows that even low doses of neonicotinoids a class of widely used pesticides can kill bees, disrupt reproduction, and impair their ability to forage and navigate. Over the past decade, one-third of the bee population has disappeared, and studies confirm that the decline affects both honeybees and wild pollinators, putting entire ecosystems at risk.
These chemicals do not only kill individual insects. They weaken colonies, reduce fertility, and can lead to the local extinction of wild pollinators. Mixtures of pesticides, even in trace amounts, compound the damage, threatening not just bees but all pollinating insects that sustain our environment and agriculture.
Despite overwhelming scientific evidence, some pesticides continue to be approved for use, putting short-term agricultural profits above long-term ecological survival. This is not only a crisis for wildlife, but also a threat to food security, as pollinators are responsible for fertilising a large portion of the crops we rely on.
We demand that the government:
Ban all bee-harming pesticides immediately.
Invest in sustainable and safe farming practices that protect pollinators.
Support scientific research and monitoring to reverse the decline of pollinator populations.
Bees are not just insects they are vital guardians of biodiversity and the natural world. Protecting them is protecting our future.
