A rainbow of fireworks, a terror for our four-legged friends.

The fear felt by pets, especially those without a home to seek refuge, is immense and often ignored.

Imagine living in constant fear of being relentlessly pursued by a threat. This is what they feel. Many of them react differently, but all follow the same pattern: they want to flee from this horrible thing. Their appearance changes; they pant uncontrollably, their pupils dilate, and they pace back and forth in search of shelter. This is where those who at least have an owner find some comfort; for the others, there is nothing left but to endure this endless and bitter experience.

For animals, fireworks are not a moment of pleasure, but a true nightmare. It is therefore necessary to change the way these explosives are used.

This is why it is essential that the State bans the sale of fireworks, and not just in a superficial or symbolic way. We cannot allow so many people to continue to act with indifference behind the scenes. It is also essential to promote awareness campaigns about the real consequences of their use, disseminating them in strategic locations such as schools, prenatal centres, and through public conferences. Furthermore, businesses that sell them without permission should be penalised with exemplary fines.

If we are unable to respect our animal friends, how can we talk about empathy towards our fellow humans?

In Peru, the use of fireworks during celebrations is common. It affects the most vulnerable and often goes unnoticed by many who, due to a lack of values or awareness, do not respect the right to peace of those living alongside us.

That is why I urge everyone in the State to reduce the use of fireworks during celebrations as much as possible. We can celebrate without causing suffering, prioritising the life and well-being of animals and humans, as this practice is also indirectly harmful to human health.
