Following the decision of the State Council
on Monday January 29th 2018 to cancel the decree of
May 3, 2017, called "Dolphinarium",
we ask the Minister for the Ecological Transition and Solidarity to adopt a new decree, prohibiting the breeding and the possession of any new cetaceans. And also to prohibit the increase in size of the pools currently containing animals who are still in captivity. The justification for this decision from the State Council is that only two public consultations instead of three were implemented before the signing of the Ministry of Ecology at the time. However, the two consultations went in the same direction: that being in the interest of animals, not industrialists from that sector.
The substance of the bill has not been challenged by the State Council, but only the language! Dolphins and orcas suffer enormously from captivity. In concrete pools, these outstanding swimmers are deprived of everything: a social life, diving, and racing with each other over great distances. The stress from extreme boredom that they endure day after day has serious consequences on their health!
