He was wearing a muzzle. He was on a lead. His owner was screaming "He is not a Bully!". But the officers didn't listen. They just fired. On February 2nd, in a London park full of children, Metropolitan Police officers shot and killed a beloved family dog, mistaking him for a banned "XL Bully".
The truth came out too late: the dog was a registered Staffy-cross, fully compliant with the law, and posed no threat to anyone.
This was not public protection; this was an execution. Witnesses describe a scene of chaos where officers seemed panicked and trigger-happy, ignoring the desperate pleas of the owner who was holding the dog's paperwork.
The XL Bully ban was meant to keep people safe, not to give police a licence to kill any dog that "looks" muscular on sight. An innocent animal is dead because officers failed to follow basic identification protocols.
We demand accountability. We are calling on the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to launch a full criminal investigation into the officers involved. They must be suspended immediately pending the outcome.
We also demand that the Met Police urgently review their "dangerous dog" engagement policy to ensure no other family has to watch their pet bleed out on the grass due to a mistake.
