His name was Moustache.
Eight years, a gentle look, a quiet presence in the small hamlet of Grézillé, where everyone knew and loved him.
A cat who used to wander in the countryside.
On October 5, Moustache did not return.
Nothing to worry about at first.
But the next day, Véronique, his owner, finds him under a car, prostrated.
When she calls, he barely turns his head. A small meow, almost a breath.
A low sound, but enough to understand that something terrible has happened.
She hugs him, feels his stiff body, his shortness of breath.
In the car, on the way to the vet, every meow becomes a tear.
A complaint that says it all: pain, fear, distress.
And then the shock.
The radio reveals the unspeakable: nearly 150 pellets in the body.
150 projectiles, stuck in the abdomen, along the spine, right under the skin.
Each lead, one burn. Each impact, a suffering.
His small body had been turned into a target.
Nevertheless, Moustache found the strength to return home.
Wounded to death, pierced all over, he walked, again and again, until he found his home.
He went through pain, shock, cold, guided only by that instinct for love and survival that only animals know.
The vet put him to sleep to ease the pain.
But Moustache did not survive.
He went away in his sleep, his body exhausted from the wounds inflicted.
Pellets fired at close range. An act of unheard of violence. A cruelty that no words can justify
Véronique, on the other hand, is devastated.
She filed a complaint. She wants to understand. She wants justice.
In this sector, a fight took place on the weekend of the tragedy.
Everything seems to indicate that it was a deliberate shooting. But even today, no one has been identified.
And Moustache is no longer there.
Her story is not a simple news item.
It is the mirror of cruelty that is becoming trivialized.
This is proof that, despite the laws, animals continue to die for no reason, without justice.
Moustache deserves better than silence.
He deserves to be remembered for his strength, his gentleness, and the violence he suffered.
It deserves a collective refusal to allow such an act to be forgotten or minimized.
I ask you to sign this petition.
Because no animal should die like this.
