To make a single high-end handbag companies use the skins of three or four different crocodiles. These animals are treated as mere objects from birth to death. The "luxury" industry hides a world of concrete pits and brutal slaughter.
the reality of the crocodile farm :
Life in a concrete box : In nature crocodiles are roamers and protectors of their territory. In farms they are packed by the hundreds into barren concrete pits. The water is often filthy with their own waste. This overcrowding leads to constant stress and fighting causing injuries that are never treated.
Living with the dead : Because they are kept in such high densities diseases spread rapidly. It is common to see young crocodiles living alongside the decomposing bodies of those that didn't survive the conditions.
The horrific slaughter : To preserve the belly skin which is the most valuable the animal is killed in a barbaric way. The crocodile is pinned down while a worker cuts the back of its neck and hammers a metal rod down its spine to scramble its brain. Scientific studies show that crocodiles remain conscious and feel pain for a long time after this procedure because of their slow metabolism.
No animal should spend its life in a concrete cell only to be slaughtered for a fashion accessory. We demand that luxury brands switch to sustainable plant-based alternatives and that governments ban the import of exotic skins.
