You all know about intensive farms and their methods of operation... The end justifies the means for these farms for which the number is the priority despite animal welfare.
But are you aware of “blood farms”, atrocious practices used in these intensive farms?
This is happening in Iceland, almost 5,000 mares suffer abuse on 119 farms, according to the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority in an article on November 23 last year.
Videos taken by a collective show unbearable images, the mares are terrorized, crammed into pens one on top of the other, they are abused and hit with wooden planks... And who knows what happens on a daily basis in these horrible farms!
Approximately 40 liters of blood are collected per pregnant mare per season, or about 5 liters per week.

What blood farms take is the hormone ECG, produced by pregnant mares, which are then transmitted to pharmaceutical laboratories in the United Kingdom and Europe, especially in France, and then sold to intensive farms.
They use it on their animals to increase the periods of ovulation. As a result, they get more births, and a better economic return.
