It is sold as the ultimate luxury. A single cup can cost $100. Marketers claim it comes from wild animals roaming freely in the jungle. This is a lie.
Most "Kopi Luwak" sold to tourists comes from industrial battery cages. The Asian palm civet, a shy and nocturnal animal, is snatched from the wild and thrown into a prison.
The Torture: Confined in tiny wire cages, these animals are denied everything natural to them. They have no space to climb or hide.
Forced Addiction: To maximise profit, they are force-fed a diet of only coffee cherries. The high caffeine content makes them nervous and sick.
Insanity: The stress is so intense that many civets develop "zoochosis". They pace endlessly, spin in circles, and even gnaw on their own limbs in despair.
Do not pay for animal cruelty. There is no certification system that can guarantee "wild" Kopi Luwak. If you buy this coffee, you are paying for a lifetime of misery.
