Despite years of political promises and global public outrage, the barbaric trade of live animal exports continues to stain our humanity in 2026. Every day, thousands of sentient farm animals cattle, sheep, and calves are forced onto decrepit, overcrowded "death ships" for journeys that can last weeks. These animals are not cargo; they are living beings treated as disposable commodities in a system that prioritises profit over basic mercy.
The reality on these vessels is a living nightmare. Animals are packed so tightly they cannot lie down, forced to stand in accumulated layers of their own waste while breathing in toxic ammonia fumes. During transit, they endure extreme heat stress, severe dehydration, and agonising injuries without any veterinary care. The recent Spiridon II disaster, where hundreds of animals suffocated or drowned, is not an anomaly it is a direct consequence of a fundamentally cruel industry. Those who survive the voyage are often offloaded in countries with zero animal welfare protections, only to face a violent and terrifying slaughter.
There is no "humane" way to transport thousands of live animals across oceans. We have the technology to replace this suffering with a "carcass-only" trade, processing meat locally and transporting it chilled. We demand that the UK government and international regulatory bodies implement an immediate and total ban on the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening. We must shut down the "death ships" and end this systemic torture once and for all. A civilised society does not export cruelty.
