Every year, millions of live animals are exported from the UK and EU to countries where animal welfare standards are often much lower or completely absent.
These animals endure long, exhausting journeys by truck or ship, often without proper food, water, or rest. Many suffer, collapse, or even die en route.

Upon arrival, they face unknown fates: brutal handling, inhumane slaughter methods, or further transport into regions with little to no animal protection laws.

This system is cruel, unnecessary, and completely out of step with modern values of compassion, science, and public opinion.

We demand that the UK and EU governments:

Introduce a total ban on the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening.
Replace live exports with the trade of carcasses and chilled meat safer, more humane, and economically viable.
End government support for companies profiting from live animal trade.
Enforce stronger protections for animals in transport — starting with journey time limits, proper rest, and inspections.

Why this matters:

Animal Welfare: Transport causes extreme suffering overcrowding, injury, heat stress, fear, and death.
Environmental Impact: These long journeys create massive carbon emissions for completely avoidable transport.
Public Opinion: Surveys show the majority of citizens oppose live exports and demand better protections.
Better Alternatives Exist: Frozen and chilled meat trade can meet demand without the cruelty.
