On Christmas morning 2025, while most were celebrating, six helpless kittens were dumped like trash in a cardboard box in a cold Hull alleyway. Among them was Nutcracker, only five weeks old and far too young to be without his mother. Despite the heroic efforts of the local RSPCA, Nutcracker has tragically died due to the sheer cruelty of his abandonment.
This is not an isolated tragedy. In 2025, animal abandonment in the UK surged by nearly 25%, reaching a five-year high. On Christmas Day alone, the RSPCA received 241 calls regarding cruelty or neglect. Dumping a sentient being in the freezing cold is a heartless act that must be met with the full force of the law.
We demand that the UK Government strengthen the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to classify abandonment in hazardous conditions as a top-tier offence with mandatory custodial sentences. We also call for the strict enforcement of cat microchipping to ensure those who dump animals are tracked and prosecuted. Animals like Nutcracker are not disposable. They deserve a legal system that punishes betrayal.
